Montessori Reggio Academy

At Montessori Reggio Academy in Katy, Texas, the goal was to create age-appropriate outdoor play environments that support children at different stages of early development. Adventure Playground Systems delivered two dedicated play areas featuring the Eugene Play System, designed for children ages 2–5, and the Knoxville Play System, designed specifically for infants and toddlers ages 6–23 months. By separating the spaces by age group, each environment provides developmentally appropriate challenges while allowing children to explore at their own pace.

The Eugene system creates an engaging environment for preschool-aged children with opportunities for climbing, movement, imaginative play, and social interaction. Its variety of play components encourages children to develop coordination, balance, confidence, and gross motor skills while interacting with their classmates. For the academy’s youngest children, the Knoxville system provides a more approachable play experience designed around early exploration. Low-level, age-appropriate play components give infants and toddlers opportunities to crawl, climb, interact, and discover their surroundings in a space created specifically for their developmental needs.

Comfort was also an important part of the overall design. A hip roof shade structure provides coverage over the Eugene play area, while a cantilever umbrella shade structure helps protect the Knoxville area from direct sunlight.

For Montessori schools, preschools, childcare centers, and early learning facilities, a well-designed playground is more than an amenity. It creates another environment where children can learn through movement, exploration, imagination, and meaningful interaction with others.
